With a spectacular Jerry Herman score featuring classics such as “It’s Today”, “Open a New Window”, “We Need a Little Christmas”, “Bosom Buddies”, “Mame”, and “If He Walked into My Life”, this is a big, colorful, joyful musical filled with
heart, comedy, singing, and dancing.

and Sundays from 1:00–5:00 PM; there will be some Saturdays for costume/photo shoot
purposes. Not everyone is called to every initial rehearsal. Tech rehearsals begin February 15.

You can find a draft rehearsal calendar here for currently scheduled days and times.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
-
Prepare 16–32 bars of a classic musical theatre song from the Golden Age of Musical Theatre. No rock or contemporary musical theatre pieces, please.
You can find a list of audition inspiration songs here. -
Singing a song directly from Mame for your initial audition is not recommended.
-
It is preferred that you sing with sheet music in the correct key—an accompanist will be provided. However, you may use a backing track if necessary. No a cappella auditions, please.
-
A dance call will be held at auditions. Please come prepared for dance with appropriate footwear (women – character heels or jazz shoes; men – jazz shoes or jazz sneakers) and fitted dance clothing. There will also be a tap call for those who can tap, so please bring tap shoes if you have them. This is a dance-heavy production, so strong movers and dancers are especially encouraged to audition.
-
Cold readings from the script will follow the music and dance portions, as well as singing songs from the show for characters with solos. Not everyone may be involved in this portion.
You can find a list of possible songs used for auditions here. -
For audition prep and style reference, we recommend reviewing/listening to the original Broadway recording of 1966 and viewing the 1974 movie of the musical.

Mame Dennis
Lead, Female, 35-50s. Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano with a strong belt.
A glamorous, eccentric, sophisticated, and free-spirited New York socialite who suddenly becomes
responsible for her young nephew, Patrick. Mame is funny, warm, fearless, and larger than life,
with tremendous comedic and dramatic range. Strong comic timing and movement skills are
important.
Featured songs: “It’s Today”, “Open a New Window”, “Mame”, “Bosom Buddies”,
“That’s How Young I Feel”, “If He Walked into My Life”.
Vera Charles
Lead, Female, 40s–60s. Vocal range: Alto with a strong belt.
A famous, flamboyant actress and Mame’s closest friend. Vera is unapologetically theatrical, hilarious, and
larger than life. A performer with strong comedic timing and a willingness to go big is essential.
Featured songs: “It’s Today,” “The Moon Song,” and “Bosom Buddies.”
Beauregard Jackson Burnside
Lead, Male, 40s-50s. Vocal range: High baritone.
A wealthy, charming, and romantic Southern gentleman who falls for Mame. Beau should have strong stage
presence, charm, and comedic ability. He is featured prominently in the show's dancing and
ensemble moments.
Featured song: “Mame.”
Agnes Gooch
Supporting, Female, 25-35. Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano.
Patrick’s initially shy, conservative, and somewhat awkward nanny. Under Mame’s influence, Agnes undergoes one of the show's most memorable transformations. A strong comedic actress with excellent vocal
ability is desired.
Featured songs: “We Need a Little Christmas,” “St. Bridget,” and “Gooch’s Song.”
Young Patrick Dennis -- Age 10
Supporting, Male, 10-12yrs. Vocal range: Tenor/boy soprano.

Mame’s devoted houseman. Ito is a comic character with several memorable moments and is featured in “We Need a Little Christmas.”

A sophisticated publisher and member of Mame’s social circle. A character role with strong personality and comedic opportunities.
Junior Babcock
Featured, Male, 30s-40s.
