ELIGIBILITY

All auditioning must be 18 years of age or older due to the adult nature of the show and its mature themes/messages and some provocative costuming. If you are not 18 at the time of auditions but will turn 18 during the rehearsal process, you are eligible. Show is rated R.

SYNOPSIS

Set in 1929-1930 Berlin during the twilight of the Jazz Age, as the Nazis are rising to power, Cabaret focuses on the nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around young American writer Cliff Bradshaw and his relationship with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Prepare 16–32 bars of a song in the style of the show that suits the role(s) you're auditioning for. Looking for some inspiration check out this link for some song ideas!

  • Singing a song directly from Cabaret for your initial audition is not recommended.

  • It is preferred that you sing with sheet music in the correct key—an accompanist will be provided. However, you may use a backing track if necessary. No a cappella auditions, please.

  • A dance call will be held at auditions for intensive dance roles, including Sally Bowles, the Emcee, and all Kit Kat Girls & Boys.

  • Please come prepared for dance with appropriate footwear (women – character heels or jazz shoes; men – jazz shoes or jazz sneakers) and fitted dance clothing.

  • Cold readings from the script will follow the music and dance portions, as well as singing songs from the show for characters with solos (list of those songs here). Not everyone may be involved in this portion.

  • For audition prep and style reference, we recommend reviewing/listening to the 1998 Broadway revival, which this production will be modeled after.
