“Twelve Angry Men” opens this Friday at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild
Welcome to the jury room and Vero Beach Theatre Guild’s first Apron Series production of their 61st season. Sherman Sergel’s “Twelve Angry Men” is a play based on the 1954 teleplay by Reginald Rose and depicts the drama of the American criminal justice system.
As a jury begins deliberations in a homicide trial involving a 19-year-old man who has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father, it looks like an open and shut case. But when a single dissenter begins to sow the seeds of reasonable doubt, tempers begin to flare and civil discussions turn into heated arguments. As personalities and prejudice begin to infiltrate the deliberations, the courtroom classic erupts with the bitterness and volatility that often drives human behavior under such circumstances.
The staged reading of “Twelve Angry Men” will be directed by Theatre Guild veteran Pat Kroger. Pat has acted, directed and served as a board member with the Theatre Guild and has a BFA in the Professional Actors Training Program, Ohio University.
The cast of readers includes Ira Lieberman, Michael Fiore, Scott Freshley, Steve Budkiewicz, David Eales, Phil Markley, Jim Daly, Bill Lembeck, Paul Williams, Steve Pagano, Don Hipsman and Anthony Aruffo as the jurors. Spike Vrusho will read the part of the guard and Jim Harping will be the judge.
“Twelve Angry Men” will be presented for three performances beginning this Friday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matinee performances start at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 and can be purchased online or at the box office in person or by phone- 772-562-8300.
