April 10 -12 Tuesdays With Morrie

by Mitch Albom

Have you ever promised to stay in touch with someone and didn’t?  “Tuesdays With Morrie” is a true story of such a severance.  Two men; Morrie Schwartz, a college professor and mentor to his student Mitch Albom.  Once close during Mitch’s college days at Brandeis University (in the 70s), but after graduation, life got in the way.  Their reunion may never have happened if not for chance.  During Mitch’s channel surfing late one night, he stumbled upon Nightline with Ted Koppel and a fateful interview with Morrie Schwartz, who was dying of ALS, (Lou Gehrig's disease).  Their reunion and subsequent visits (always on Tuesdays), are the source for the material Mitch uses for the book, movie and play.

John Houx and Jim Daly bring this tender story to the Vero Beach Theatre Guild stage for a one weekend only Fundraiser (Tickets are $20), April 10th, (8:00PM) 11th (2:00PM) and 12th (2:00PM).  Real life has imitated art as they’ve become friends off stage as well.  If you see John and Jim out to lunch around town, it must be a Tuesday.

Kaufman and Hart, the masters of comedy in the 1930’s, created a timeless masterpiece that won the Pulitzer Prize (play) and Academy Award (film).  When Alice, of the eccentric Sycamore family, becomes engaged to Tony Kirby, son of a wealthy, ruthless banker, the two families clash.  The ensuing comic chaos peaks when federal agents raid the Sycamore house-hold.
